Lyrics Outline

Well until now I haven't thought much about the lyrics. In class we had only been talking about the art pieces, only this morning I am told that the first draft of the lyrics are due tomorrow. And since I haven't started lyrics I'm going to make and outline to show what I plan on doing.

Lyrics Outline:

~I want to tell the story of the Buddha and what he did to show resilience

~I plan on no saying the names of the two people who I am attributing the song/spoken word to.

~I don't know if it should be music or spoken word I need some help for that decision

1. Introduce Buddha in a manner so that its not obvious I am speaking about the Buddha here is some lines i thought would work.

Thousands of years ago,
Lived a prince.
Son of King who ruled a land
That was very grand.
He wanted to be sure there
Was peace and prosperity,
He didn't want suffering and poverty.
etc.

2. Talk about how he helped the world and how he shows resilience:

He gave up being rich,
He gave up all he had.
To go on a journey,
To see why people were sad.
He found that the reason behind suffering,
was the fault of the sufferer themselves.
But that wasn't enough he wanted to know
Life's purpose.

3. Speak about his second journey for enlightenment and how he spread his messages and doctrines.

4. Talk about how the Dalai Lama is a reincarnation of the Buddha and how he is sent every generation to shield from the violence and suffering of the world.

5. I don't know what to end with.

Questions:

1. Should it be music or spoken word?

2. What else should I add?

3. What should the ending be?

4. If it should be a song what tune should it be to?

This is an outstanding outline for your music/spoken word creation. The lyrics you began writing out drew me in; your choice not to mention the names of Buddha and the Dalai Lama in the song or spoken word poem will help your piece maintain that sense of intrigue. Personally, I like to be kept guessing and make my own meaning while listening to music or spoken word - your outline seems to help keep the listener guessing, as well as clearly communicating the themes and essence of your resilient individuals. Excellent Work! I would love to use your outline as a model to show the rest of the class. You have put a lot of organization and brainstorming into your song before officially writing the first line.
